Obtaining grant funding for a project could mean the difference between it being viable or unviable or give a business the extra resources it needs to make it successful.

The application process and subsequent grant claims and reporting of outcomes vary depending on the funder and size of the project. We can help with all aspects of grant applications, claims and reporting.

In terms of grants that are currently available to businesses in East Yorkshire, we should like to thank Andrew Bradley (Business Development Manager, Inward Investment, Hull City Council) for this comprehensive of summary of currently available grants.

Invest Hull

Capital grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 at a maximum intervention rate of 50%. Hull based business can make two applications to the scheme, one for general support and one for Carbon reduction. Invest East Yorkshire

Have a number of grants available:

Capital grants at a maximum 50% Intervention, primarily for small scale capital expenditure, max £5k for movable assets, £10k for fixed assets. Carbon reduction grants, maximum 50% intervention, up to a maximum of £20,000. Larger grants of up to £50,000 available for projects of significant economic impact. Start-up grants of up to £750 @ 100% intervention. Skills grants of up to £1,000 are available if no other funding is available

HEY Business, Growth and Skills Hub, Growing Places Grant

Designed as a job creation scheme it supports businesses from across the region that are looking into investing in plant and machinery as part of a growth strategy. Grants are available from £5,000 to £250,000 and grant support ranges from 10% to 50% of project costs before VAT. See enclosed link for further details. Young Entrepreneurs
Can seek business support and teat marking grants from the MC4C and John Cracknell Youth Bank schemes operated by Hull City Council. These programmes are designed to support young people into business and give a third option of becoming your own Boss by starting a business the two traditional routes of University or Paid Employment when you leave school. Made Smarter
Available from July 25, this scheme is designed to support manufacturing business wit grants from £2,000 to £40,000 at 50% intervention, full details can be found on the following link UK Digital Manufacturing advice & innovation | Made Smarter

Innovate UK Research and Innovation  
Innovate UK – UKRI Innovate UK operate a number of business support schemes and grant funds open to UK businesses that are involved in the Innovation of products and services or undertaking new R&D projects. Grants are very targeted and competition for support can be fierce however grants range in value from £5,000 to £1,000,000 and can range in support value from 30% of project costs to 90% of project costs.  University of Hull

Also operate a comprehensive program of business support, again full details are available on the enclosed web link  Supporting growth and innovation | University of Hull in summary they are able to offer the following

  • Aura Innovation Centre
  • Flood Innovation Centre
  • Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPS) – up to £35,000 of support to cover costs of a business working with the University on specific projects / problems that the business needs to solve.
  • Humber internship Programme (HIP) – 12-week part funded internships / talent acquisition programme.
  • SME Business Clinics and Help to Grow Programmes
